This is a general checklist to help plan your upcoming move. Your situation may vary.
8 Weeks Before Moving
______Start a file to keep track of estimates and receipts and other important information
______Create a floor plan of your new home and decide your furniture placement
______Start to budget for your moving expenses
______Start to use or dispose of compressed gases such as propane
______Dispose of any items that are not allowed on our trucks, see note
7 Weeks Before Moving
______Start gathering your family's medical and dental records along with prescriptions and shot records.
______Arrange to have your childrens school records transferred to their new school
______Arrange for veterinarian records to be transferred
______Call Tri-State Moving Services to get a free moving estimate
6 Weeks Before Moving
______Start to compile a list of people and business that need to be notified of your relocation.
______Start taking an inventory of items in each room that you intend on packing and those items that you intend on discarding
______Begin to use items that are disposable such as frozen foods, household cleaners and propane gas
______Start to collect packing supplies, Call Tri-State for all your moving supplies or check out our box link
5 Weeks Before Moving
_____Begin packing if you haven't already,read Tri-State's Packing Tips
_____Start one room at a time, pack items that you know you will not use in the next few weeks
_____Don't forget attics, garages, sheds and basements
_____Consider donating items that you no longer use or wear, get a receipt for tax purposes
_____Designate a "staging area" for your boxes such as a garage, or unused room
_____Label all your boxes clearly and on the side of the box, make sure it's marked with room it is going to go
_____Make a list and start to gather any items you may want to transport yourself, important documents, jewelry, family photos

4 Weeks Before Moving
_____Book your move date with Tri-State, remember to send back your Order for Service
_____Schedule a disconnection date with all your utilities
_____Inform your paper carrier of your impending move and have delivery stopped
_____Continue packing and staging your boxes
3 Weeks Before Moving
_____Call the utility companies in your new town to set a turn-on date
_____Decide whether you will transport your own plants, give them away or dispose, as plants cannot be transported in the moving truck
_____Call your auto insurance company to have your vehicles rated for your new location
2 Weeks Before Moving
_____File your change of address with the Post Office
_____Contact your bank to close or transfer your accounts
_____Budget for your travel expenses
_____Compile an inventory of all your boxes
_____Start to use whatever food is in your refrigerator
_____Create a Survival Kit for your move, include medications, cleaning supplies,pet food, toliet paper, clothing, bed coverings etc. so that you will have these items available for use on the first day in the new house
1 Week Before Moving
_____Notify friends and family of your new address and phone number
_____Make sure your lawn equipment is drained of all fuels and oils
_____If appliances are being moved have them drained of water
_____Add any last minute items to your Survival Kit
_____Plan your travel route, have games and snacks avaiable for the kids, and water and food for your family pet
_____Have all boxes packed and ready to go the night before your move
Day of Your Move
_____Check every room and closet for any items you may have missed packing
_____Look over your Bill of Lading carefully, ask if you have any questions
_____Designate last load items, those items you may need right away in the new home
_____Have a safe journey to your new home, Good Luck!
